Sugar Beach is a Luxury Resort owned by the Viceroy, located in St. Lucia. Originally an 18th-century sugar plantation, the Viceroy turned this location into a stunning resort with beautiful accommodations amidst vibrant gardens and a white sand beach. With a view of the UNESCO World Heritage Pitons in the backdrop, this place truly is, paradise.

From secluded villas to beachfront bungalows to long term residences, each corner of the property is suitable and perfect for all types of guests. Enjoy a rum cocktail, eat some delicious Johnny Cakes, and take in all the breathtaking views and island vibes. Here is my full review and experience of my stay at Sugar Beach!

Covid-19 Information

These Covid rules and regulations are based off of our trip in February 2021– please double check that the information is still relevant during the time of your visit via Saint Lucia Tourism Website (click HERE).Saint Lucia is currently open to all international travelers right now! You’ll need to fill out a Travel Authorization application (proving that are staying at one of their Covid-19 approved accommodations) and present a Negative Covid PCR Test taken within 5 days of arrival. For example, if you arrive on a Sunday, your test must be administered Wednesday at the earliest. You’ll then upload your results to the Travel Authorization Application, and the St. Lucia Travel Authority will email you an approved form to present during boarding. Please note, you can be denied boarding without this paperwork. There will also be a health and temperature screening upon arrival, and then paradise awaits you!

The Property & Rooms

Sugar Beach Viceroy was originally built as a Sugar Plantation in the 18th Century. When you enter the property, there are still some remains of one of the very first sugar mills dating back to the plantation. This property spans over 100 acres with the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Pitons as the backdrop.

The resort boasts many different types of rooms, from bungalows to villas, to cottages. You can pick any specific room to suit your needs! We stayed in the Grand Luxury Villa, and had the most beautiful views of the Piton as well as the beach. Each room comes with 24/7 butler service, shuttle service to span the 100-acres, complimentary water & local Piton beer, mosquito repellent, and more. Our room also came with a private plunge pool, pictured below!

Beach Front

The Resort is beach front, and named after the beach itself, Sugar Beach. Because all beaches in Saint Lucia are open to the pubic, you can still access this beach even if you’re not staying on property (but the front row of the beach huts are reserved for guests at the property). During our visit, the beaches were basically empty and everyone at the beach was a guest. The hotel also offers complimentary non-motorized water activities, such as kayaking and snorkeling gear! But they also have different types of boat tours, from sunset cruises to boats to the nearby town. You can also go tubing, sailing, and scuba diving at an additional cost.

There is a beautiful second beach that is much more quiet and remote compared to the main beach. The second beach also has its own bar, beach side service, and lounge chairs. There’s even a beautiful hammock that sits right above the ocean! Only Sugar Beach Viceroy guests can spend time on this beach, so there is much more privacy. The entire time we were there, we only saw one other party on this side!

Restaurants & Dining

Sugar Beach Viceroy boasts several restaurants on property, from the beautiful Bayside Restaurant that is right by the water to the Terrace Restaurant that gives you the perfect view of the Pitons. There is no corner of the property that truly isn’t breathtaking! For breakfast, make sure you try the traditional creole breakfast and the poached eggs over Creole sauce– it was by far, our favorite! There are also different events on different weekdays, so enjoy an all-you-can-eat island BBQ and a s’mores bonfire night, depending on which dates you’re at the resort. There is also a fine dining restaurant (dress code enforced) for all your date night needs.

Other Notable Mentions

At the time we traveled to Saint Lucia, most land tours have been cancelled and only certain Covid-19 approved tours are operating, so make sure you plan accordingly and call ahead of time. But! Sugar Beach Viceroy is just so beautiful that you don’t need to leave the resort to get all the dreamy island feels. While there, make sure you take a shuttle up to sunset deck. The views there are incredible, and people who get married on the resort typically choose that location! You can also do sunset boat cruises, and relax all day in their hammocks and beach shacks! There is also a very beautiful pool with a Piton backdrop (that was mostly unoccupied most likely because the beautiful beaches were there. But overall, we had such a dreamy stay, and would go back in a heartbeat!
